….sooooooo, I took January off to discombobulate and really get ready for the new year! Got a few things planned and the pace is already hectic, but I’m not complaining! Without any further ado, we’re just gonna get into what’s in this mix:

Our first feature track is “Thommy Davis & Randy Roberts – Try Jah Love”   – a remake of an 80’s club classic by iconic Reggae group,  Third World!   I remember this being played religiously in the hood and with Thommy Davis and DJ Spen on the mix and Randy Roberts on the vocals, this track DELIVERS. Not only that – we’ve also got Gary Hudgins on keys and bass and Lloyd “Skip” Dorsey on guitars, so you need to check this one out! I used the original mix but you also need to check out the Mr. Showtyme Afrocentric Remix (this also delivers)!

The next track we’d like to talk about is “Louie Vega ft. Janine Sugah Lyrics Lyons – A Place Where We Can All Be Free” off the “Expansions In The NYC” preview EP. Now if you’ve ever been fortunate enough to attend Louie Vega’s Expansions, NYC party (formerly located a block from the old Limelight), then you KNOW how unbelievable the atmosphere is! People talk about Paradise Garage, The Loft, Gallery, and other infamous clubs – and we know that these weren’t simply “clubs” – they were movements, they were moments in time….and admission to these movements – these places in time – was a massive privilege and Expansions, NYC is NO different. Louie Vega makes each and every person in there feel like he created the party for THEM and them alone. You will see folks like Toni Colandreo, Janine Lyons, and Axel Tosca mingling one minute and then – at 3 in morning – having an improptu jam session with Louie spinning – it’s unreal! Expansions is a “you have to be there” movement. New memories are being created here and though we are still waiting for a permanent home for Expansions, the movement is still very much alive! Stay tooned for the arrival of the Expansions album!

While we’re talking about awesome remakes, can we talk about “Nicholas Ryan Gant & Karizma – Gypsy Woman (She’s Homeless) (Kaytronik Remix Extended Version)”?? I’ve been a Nicholas Ryan Gant fan since hearing his work with Zo! (of Grammy nominated group, The Foreign Exchange) – but there’s muuuuuuuuch more to this “ghetto falsetto” (check out his unbelievable catalog on Spotify!). This is a remake of the track that kicked of House leged, Crystal Water’s career back in…um…I wanna say 91′? Anyway – the way he interpreted this on the original version produced by DJ Applejac is nothing less than phenomenal, but who let Karizma and Kaytronik get their hands on it??? OMG – there are tracks you play to get people on the floor – THIS is what you play to keep them there! If you haven’t copped this yet, you bullshittin’ (ijs).

Other tracks definitely worth mentioning are “Lexa Hill – Ninos (Vocal Mix)”, “Toshi, David Morales, Timmy Regisford – Nini Part 1 (Diridim Mix)”, “Mr. V, Walter Scalzone, Tony P. – The Rhythm”, and “ZTSky, Mr. Kan3 – Salsa (Original Mix)”…these will follow me into rotation for some time so go to the links in the list and cop these!

….aaaaaand we’re back! We apologize for not bringing you a mix last month – we truly appreciate you hanging in there with us! We had some drastic system configurations last month and now we’re ready for action! So let’s get down to business, shall we?

Our first feature track is “Praying For You (Album Mix)” from the looooooooooooooooong anticipated Jasper Street Co. album “Rejoicing“! Listen, if you’ve been out to the club in the last 4 months, you’ve been assaulted with this track only to rush home and not be able to find it ANYWHERE. Well, it’s finally here – and not a minute too soon, I was gettin’ ready to write Nervous a terse email demanding this track, LOLOL. No, I’m kidding, ut really – this track has been lighting up the clubs for months. If you like Soulful House done CORRECTLY, then look no further than this 11 track album! Featuring artists such as Kenny Bobien, Byron Stingily (that’s Principal Stingily to some of your kids, LOL), and Dawn Tallman, Teddy Douglas and DJ Spen show us why their pedigree is unimpeachable! But um, y’all think y’all slick tho – this album is cool n’ all that, but imma need them OTHER mixes of “Praying For You” – you know good n’ well what I’m talking about – Louie Vega been spinnin’ them shits for months @ Expansions – y’all holding out!!! Honestly, though look out for “You’re My Latest, My Greatest Inspiration” – a near PERFECT remake that will leave you in tears if it catches you on the right dancefloor and in the right mood. It is pure elevation. Oh! and “My Soul Is a Witness” – well, let’s just say if you enjoyed the “Track & Feel Events” EP that came out on Nervous a whopping 26 years ago (wow, right?), then you will LOOOOOVE this track! Trust me.

For our second feature – it’s not so much a track as it appears to be somewhat of a movement... seriously, can we talk about the sheer amount of work Kev Dot Kruz is putting in???? Always one to produce outside the box aesthetically, dude has been putting in WORK. He’s been quietly putting out a steady stream of Deep Tech, Afro Tech, Dark Tech, Techno, and other stuff you just have to hear – and he’s been releasing like 90% of it FREE on Soundcloud on his new “Afro Riddims” label!! Since those my folks, maybe I’m biased, but check it out for yourself! We try out his “Flower Underground” track (#16) in this mix.

Another dope producer, colleague, and all around awesome dude that really should be mentioned is none other than Harry Soto! Harry’s been making noise – and quite a bit of it, too! Another one not one to be constricted by genre, this time Harry brings us a deep techno vibe that will rattle your speakers! Check out “Techno Gods” (#17).

And we CERTAINLY can’t let y’all go without mentioning our closing track – “Work That Body”  – the debut track from the globetrotting DJ Q featuring none other than THE House diva herself – Barbara Tucker! Most of you in Italy, Spain, England, and many other spots across the world know DJ Q as Barbara Tucker’s touring DJ – and now you get to hear a DIFFERENT side of DJ Q. Ladies, gennelmen, and other identified – we have a PROBLEM!! Expect more from this up and coming producer, but until then, check out “Work That Body” (with Georgie Porgie on the co-production!) (#18) and get into what you hear!

As usual, The Zodiac Thump is all about music. PERIOD. These mixes feature everything from Soulful to Afro to Tech to Techno – it’s pretty much all in there.  In this mix, we’ve got tracks from Zo!, Dean Zepherin, Todd Terry, Joeski, Alex Peace – and much more!  As usual – free download, so enjoy!

Enjoy the mix folks and download it at your leisure! Make sure you go to the official Zodiac Thump Music page and click “like” for news, freebies, and the latest from Zodiac Thump Music!

Enjoy! 🙂
